The Freechoice Word

As we roll to the close of May, its hard to believe where 2012 has gone to. Is it me or does time seem to pass by more quickly every year?. Before you know where we are, we will be hanging our stockings up again. April was a slow burner for us in a Business Sense, we just about managed to hit our targets but after the madness of March and the end of the financial year, it seemed very sedentary in comparison. Through Floor Lifts were our salvation during April, with another 2 Through Floor Lift Rentals and also 2 Reconditioned units going in. Stairlifts Sales remain stable in spite of some Local Authorities thinking that a better deal could be had by purchasing though a Consortium. I appreciate that every avenue of money saving ideas must be explored but how can a Manufacturer based outside of the area, hope to deliver a comparable service to a Local Company trying to compete with the might of the Manufacturer in any way that he can. Although he may not have 100 engineers, he has an ace up his sleeve, he is LOCAL and he wants to provide a Service for his LOCAL Customers. I hope that this message eventually sinks in with the purse holders and that they soon realize that its not all about the purchase price. Moving away from our Local Authority Business, we have had the good fortune to have been asked to provide a Comprehensive Property Services and Facilities Management to a National Trust Property in Buckinghamshire with over 60 Properties to look after. We have enjoyed a good start and hope that this is a long term working relationship in the making. We are regularly approached by Estate Agents looking for cheaper Gas Tests and tempting us with the promise of on going maintenance work. This has not yet worked out for us and I have yet to find a solution to this conundrum. If the Individual Company would like to deal with a professional organisation with Office Staff and drop of the hat availability then why do they expect one man band rates. Its beyond my comprehension. One of my all time favorite quotes comes from John Ruskin who says ” If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.” In these times of austerity and cuts and buy one get one free, it is the words of Ruskin that should be remembered otherwise it is false economy in the long run.
